Decided it was time to move with the times, since wireless Internet arrived in our household around 7 years ago in the guise of a Bullalo GR54…oh how things have changed !

One button press on the Netgear WNDR3700 followed by a button press on, 2 laptops, Canon MP 620 printer and a Netgaeat 5ghz access point and away you go.

Also my Office PC via gigabyte ethernet, A PS3 via gigabyte ethernet, daughters pc via gigabyte ethernet.

So, So easy, no assigning IPs or anything like that, I have added a Freecom 250gb external usb hard drive to the network via the WNDR3700s USB, put a music folder, movie folder and homework folder.

This Router is superb, nothing upsets it, as I write this Daughter 1 is watching streamed movie, Daughter 2 is playing an online game via laptop and wife is watching a movie downstairs via the 5ghz link and its all running so smooth.

I paired this up with a netgear WNHDE111 access point that I got off ebay, again one putton push and away we go. That is situated diagonaly opposite in the house (ie one floor down, three rooms away 25m…ish)hooked up to this is a the new AC Ryan Playon HD player and again as I write it is streaming HD quality with full DTS sound out put.

With this setup I do not need to turn on my main PC to stream media anywhere in the house (or street)the WNDR 3700 also has a simple button on the front to press and turn off both networks, thereby saving power and reducing exposure to RF.

As soon as I hooked the unit up it asked if I wanted to update firmware, I said OK, it did it automaticaly and asked for a restart, since then pure plain sailing, no dropped connections, no glitching whilst streaming.I hope 5ghz stays this good, but as the word spreads I guess it will get a little crowded down here!

I do not know what else is out there that beats this router for function and performance, I read up, and read up and read up, then finally selected this over a dlink 855, OK it was a bit more expensive but not by much.

Bought through Amazon Marketplace, usual speedy delivery, even though it was despatched from Germany.

I have collection of various bits of equipment from NetGear (Router, NAS Duo, Digital Entertainer Elite) and I have to say that this router met all my expectations. It was easy to install and I have seen a marked improvement to the overall performance of my home wireless work. I currently use it to stream video and music. The advantage of the dual band is that you can dedicate the 5 GHz band for the most demanding applications, which in my case is HD video streaming.

Upgraded to this model from a very unreliable Belkin router, well worth the extra cost, its reliable, fast and has great features easily accessable through the web interface. It has 8 built-in anntenna’s and runs not only 2.4mhz wireless but the new 5mhz, you can also see clearly on the front panel whats happening, which wireless device’s are being used and which wired connections are active or in use.

You also have a very handy button on the front to switch off the wireless access which is very handy to save energy or for security reasons when not in use for sometime. Another good idea is the power button on the back to save pulling the power cord out when you want to turn the unit off altogether.

Lovely black glossy plastic with space saving design, the glossy plastic however is a finger print magnet.

Very fast, efficient and quality router. 10/10

This is an excellent product. Easy to set-up, packed with features. Handles a large number of clients (I have in the region of 15 devices connected) effortlessly. High throughput, strong wireless performance (the router is placed inside a cupboard upstairs and still the clients pick up a solid signal throughout the house). I’ve had it a few days now; been playing online games, downloading some files via torrent, have a VPN connection active to allow me to work from home – hasn’t missed a beat, not a single dropout thus far. I’ve read that its Achilles heel may be its USB NAS connection performance but I have a separate stand alone NAS (which I’d recommend anyway) so not tested that.

It even looks like it will be supported by OPENwrt and DD-WRT in the future.

Thoroughly recommended – worth the asking price. Well done Netgear

I bought this as a replacement for my old Netgear router as I was having trouble networking an X-Box to the old system. I have always liked Netgear kit but I have to say this machine was very disappointing. despite all its hype the internal aerials gave a worse signal around the house than the old system. I ended up going back to the old one and sending this one back. In fairness to Amazon they, as always, treated me brilliantly and even paid my return postage.

I needed a new router as I was moving to Virgin media and I’ve always been happy with Netgear stuff in the past, so I took the plunge with this one.

Setup was very simple and within minutes I was surfing away. Everything I have thrown at it, connection wise ( iMac wireless, Samsung NC10 wireless, XBox 360 wired and PS3 wireless ), has worked straight away and the connection remians fast, no matter what I’m doing. Obviously this is attributable to the excellent Virgin broadband connection too.

The only slight problem was the PSU packed up within days, but luckily the router Virgin give you free is another Netgear and the power supply is compatible.

Very easy to set up, good instructions, and it just worked straight out of the box. Very good wireless reception, although won’t sustain the higher wireless transmission speeds for long (gets disrupted by cordless phones, other mobiles, so have re-set to lowest – default – wireless speed, where it is unaffected). Recommend it as solid basis for a fast home wireless network.

I had a standard 802.11g 54mbps router from Virgin Media, a nice unit but its a headache transferring huge files either by LAN or W-LAN. I saw this router at £50 and thought i’d splash out on it.

I was mostly drawn by the gigabit switch, my computers and our PS3 all support 1.0Gbps performance, only our laptops that don’t. All of the wired connections are reaching full performance which i’m extremely impressed with.

The connection strength of the wireless is superb, constantly 5 bars throughout the house, even in the furthest corner away from router, not yet seen it drop

It was easy to set up, was done within a few minutes, took longer to update laptops with different WPA2 passphrase than the router itself!

My only gripe is the router doesn’t reach full 300mbps on my laptop.

This is a Packard Bell MB88 series laptop with built in Wireless N(which is a reason I chose N, besides better range), however despite router being set to 300mbps, and even when the laptop is next to the router, it stays at 144mbps, this is still better than G, but not quite full N speed

Overall very happy with router, it does lose a star due to not reaching full N speed

I have to agree with the other revies, the setup was painless and the router just works. However I don’t use the wireless, I have cabled the whole house due to the poor wireless devices I have had in the past. The 1Gb LAN was what I was after, all I can say is transferring files from all the machines I have is so much more faster.
